#10: Metal Gear Solid
If you are an old school gamer, as I am, then you will remember the first Metal Gear. Originally debuting on the NES, Metal Gear had you assuming the role of Solid Snake. Snake's job was to infiltrate an espansive enemy base using only his wits and whatever he could find along the way. If was original in that you needed to rely on stealth and subterfuge in order to successfully complete the game. It made Metal Gear a very unique and popular title.
Fast forward to the year 2000. After a weak stateside sequel, the Metal Gear franchise returns to the U.S. in force with Hideo Kojima's masterpiece Metal Gear Solid. The protagonist of MGS is once again the badass Solid Snakeand the overall style of the game has not changed much from the original. You still need to infiltrate an enemy base using wits and procured items.
