DARKWATCH LEVELS

Morning After Level Screen Shot

This is a JPG screen shot the Morning After level. I created a low-res version of the space using Maya and a proprietary toolset was used to place in the actors and setup the encounters. The red squares are trigger volumes that triggered events that were scripted through the use of LUA script. On the right is our in-game cinematic tool Geppetto. (image will open in a new window)

Morning After Level Playthrough Video

This WMV video shows me playing through the Morning After level. In the middle of the video there is a minimatic (in-game cinematic) that uses the Havok physics engine that shows the Darkwatch agents being beaten up by Darkwatch’s Tala character.

Daylight Prism Level Playthrough Video

This WMV video shows me playing through the Daylight Prism level. The level begins with a feed event and the player is given a choice between saving the DW Agent or killing the DW Agent. There is another DW agent that will either help the player if the player chooses to save the agent or attack the player if he chooses to evil path. The level is a daylight level where the player, being a Vampire, will lose his powers if he is outside of the shadows. Another point of interest is at the end of the level where the player is able to destroy scaffolding to drop TNT barrels down on top of the Mark of Evil to assist in its destruction.

DARKWATCH IN-GAME CINEMATICS

Lazarus Feed Event Asset List and Artist Storyboard

This PDF file contains a listing of the animation assets and the storyboard for the Lazarus Feed Event. A Feed Event is essentially three minimatics (in-game cinematics) rolled into one. The starting minimatic to set up the Feed Event always stayed the same. The final minimatic is dependant on the player’s choice of Good or Evil. I worked closely with our animators and artists to create custom animations and storyboards for Darkwatch’s Feed Events.

Lazarus Feed Event LUA Script

I wrote this LUA script to run the Lazarus Feed Event. The sound designer has made some additions to the LUA Script to add sound effects for the sequence as per the comments in the script.

Lazarus Good Feed Video

This WMA video shows the Good Feed Event that was created from all the assets.

Lazarus Evil Feed Video

This WMA video shows the Evil Feed Event that was created from all the assets.

Baptism Feed Video

This WMA video is another example of a Feed Event.

Lazarus Death Video

This WMA video is a capture of the minimatic happens after the player defeats Lazarus. It opens the Lazarus Feed Event.

Tala Kick Video

One of the obstacles to creating minimatics for Darkwatch was that I had limited resources for animations. I used the existing character animations to create every non-feed event minimatic in Darkwatch.
This WMA video has Tala playing a roll animation and she then plays a roundhouse kick. The Reaper is Havok impulsed into invisible collision spawned in front of the camera and a screen shake is applied to sell the impact.

Cassidy Feed Video

This WMA video is yet another example of a Feed Event.

Cassidy Reaper Video

This WMA video is a minimatic to introduce the blood cloud to the player. Blood Clouds heal the player as well as allow the player to use their vampire brands (powers).

Darkwatch War Train Video

This WMA video shows the Darkwatch War Train, which was for a level that was only available for the PS2.

Prisoner Minimatic Video

This WMA video is a minimatic that opens the Hangtown level.

Tala Sacrifice Video

This WMA video is of a virgin sacrifice that Tala is using to gain additional power.

Townie Minimatic Video

This WMA video is used to flesh out some of the details of the Darkwatch organization and provide motivation for the player.
