Fashionable Patriotism

Goddamn it. I mean, GODDAMN IT. Today is the 2nd anniversary of 9/11, as if anyone actually cares. I looked in today's paper and there is a one headline blurb about it. No full page spread, no in-depth articles, nothing. Remember the 1st anniversary? Shit, you couldn't look at a piece of media without being reminded of it. That day, one year ago, I felt the promise that we, as American, made that we will "never forget." I bet there are a whole lot of people that will wake up tomorrow and say "shit, yesterday was 9/11, I totally forgot." It is partially their fault, they did do the forgetting after all, but the rest of the people are to blame too. No one has been talking about it, no one even seems to care anymore. Everyone is so caught up in their own bullshit that no one remembers what it felt like when you saw those towers fall. At that momnent, everyone was outraged. Even I, brutal cynic that I am, was caught up in the patriotism that came in those following months. But because I am such a cynic, I knew that it would only be a matter of time before patriotism went out of style, and everyone went back to how they used to feel. That's why I never put one of those stickers on my car. I figured, if I didn't have one on before 9/11, I didn't have a right to put one on after. It seemed cheap to me, like I was conforming. 9/11 did something to me, however. It found a kink in my powerful shell of cynicism and made me into a patriot. Before, I never felt real pride in our country. I was too busy focusing on the negative. Now I can truly say that I love the USA, for everything that it is, faults and all. For me, that is huge, because I belive that everything and everyone ends up disappointing you in the end, but I believe in the U.S. Therefore, it is disgusting to me how quickly everyone forgets. I would've bet my entire future livelyhood that 9/11 would be a national holiday. I haven't heard anyone talking about that. WTF? This is just another one of those things that makes me full of disdain for the human race. Just once, I would like to see the people stand up for what they have said, and not change it because it is easier. Ah, anyway. It's not like anyone gives a shit what I have to say anyway, just look at the Answer Men section, everyone hates me. Well, I hate you too.

Love and kisses, KenshiroKing.
