November 2003 Links

A service to track the location of mobile phones has been announced this week in the U.K. While this technology has been available to authorities for some time now it is only now being made available to the public. Despite the fact that there are no doubt many useful applications for this service, this new service still concerns me in that it will be intruding on personal privacy rights. Check out the article and make up your own mind.

For our second link of the day I give you political correctness gone too far.

Our third link of the day is to go vote for your favorite games for the Video Game Awards to be hosted by Spike TV.

New DLC for MechAssault came out today and costs $5. Above is the link detailing what it is all about. I did not find the new DLC all that exciting since I for the most part am a Team Destruction player, but out of respect for the past year of fun this game has given me I would gladly shell out $5 for this and every other DLC that comes out after even if I have moved on to other games.

Video of Final Fantasy XII. It always pains me when I see inept video camera operators. I mean Jesus Christ man turn off the auto focus and learn how to hold your camera steady! Amateurs.

Here's some more screens of FFXII. So um...either the game has two female characters playing as the leads or that's one effeminate looking main character.

I know I missed yesterday's LotD so I'll make it up to you with this.

10 minutes of my life lost forever and I can never get them back. Ever. Damn you for posting the link to that Julia Roberts article. My eyes!! How does one describe the horror? You can't. I can't. Halo, Bungie, Xbox, Microsoft, all FPS games, the entire video gaming culture - - all were irrevocably obliterated with the creation of that diabolic article. I couldn't have done a more complete job of ruining gaming myself if I had time-traveled back to the 1950s on a Terminator mission to kill the forefathers of all video games. What have you done?!? My mind is Silly Putty, forever imprinted with the memory of this blight upon humanity. A thousand genies with three thousand wishes could not possibly recover my lost innocence. I've been reduced to a drooling, babbling, fool. I blame you for the loss of my sanity. Please make the pain go away...

Through sickness and in health the LotD keeps going. The first four episodes of Cartoon Network's Clone Wars cartoons are viewable on their site. The release schedule is one episode per day until all twenty are released. Go check them out.

This link to an amazing digital art site wraps it up for this week's LotDs. I've been proud of the quality of the links this past week and I'd like to extend thanks to all of you who have contributed.

When you buy the new RADEON 9800 XT or RADEON 9600 XT you will get a FREE copy of Half-Life 2!

Bestbuy is selling the ATI Radeon 9600SE with Half Life 2 (when available) for $130. Here is the kicker. THERE ARE 9600 PROS INSIDE CERTAIN BOXES. Here are the serial numbers for the ones that are and aren't 9600 Pros.

180336X = Pro
180339X = Pro
180340X = SE
180338X = SE

If you were wondering what the difference between the two cards are click on this.

Since I am technically the manager of the video games section here at LU, I would be remiss in my duties if I did not use my current power as poster of the LoTD by linking to something video game related. To that end, I give you Overclocked Remix. Chances are, if you like video games and frequent this small batch of linked together computers we call the internet, you have heard of this site. It is THE place to go for remixes of video game soundtracks. There is some SERIOUSLY high quality stuff there. Goddamn it, I'm such a rookie at this shit. I turned a LoTD into a news post.

Holy crap. I actually had to put up two LoTDs in a row. This is unprecidented. That is to say, there is NO PRECIDENT. Today's offering is a collection of videos nominated for the Machinima awards. If you're wondering what Machinima is, go here. If you want to know which films have been nominated on the other hand, go a-here. This one being the actual LoTD.

Rip called me up while I was in the middle of playing Freedom Fighters to tell me to go watch this video. He told me I wouldn't be sorry. I actually was because I could have waited until later to watch it. You however won't be; this guy has mad skillz. Except where he fucks up on the most important part: kissing the crowd's ass.
