A Real Guitar Hero – Sungha Jung 12 Year Old Prodigy Fingerstyle Guitarist

Sungha Jung is a 12-year-old fingerstyle guitarist from South Korea. This kid makes me think I wasted my youth playing video games. As I watched his videos over the last few years, it is like watching Sungha Jung grow up. The thought of how YouTube has chronicled people’s lives is a little weird. It just makes you realize how much YouTube has changed our lives. In video game development YouTube is the greatest referencing tool there is. As a fellow game developer asked the question, “how did we ever copy stuff before YouTube?”

Here are some of my favorite videos of his.

No Woman No Cry – Sungha Jung

All Along the Watchtower – Sungha Jung

Blackbird – Sungha Jung

Tango – Sungha Jung

Moon River – Sungha Jung

When the Children Cry – Sungha Jung

If you want to see a great movie about a child chess prodigy I would highly recommend the movie Searching for Bobby Fischer.

He’s one of the few that could actually do this, so to think that u wasted your youth playing video games is ignorant. It doesnt really matter how much time you dedicate to playing, you will surely improve but not to his level by the time your 12 years old. It pisses me off to an extent because I played from the time I was 13 till now (am 40)with brief hiatus’ and can still not play at this kids level…Either your born with it or your not

  10. Curt says:

To the Webmaster who pulled off my previous post…
    Simple fact “it’s the truth”

  11. Tony Huynh says:

Curt, I did not pull down your last message. I do however disagree with you. Practicing is not enough. Correct application of practice is necessary. Practice merely maintains your skill level. If you practice “deliberately” on your weaknesses you get better. You might want to read this article Why Talent is Overrated.

  12. Ulric says:

I agree to an extent that practicing on your weaker points will refine them, however, I also am not blind to the fact that this kid is a virtual genius when playing.
He plays so many diverse styles of music with absolute ease and is not the least intimidated with whatever the music to be played!
His insight is born within of love and devotion, no doubt inspired by his musical father, but also from God, who gave him this gift and he shares this with all of us to admire, respect, and to enjoy.
Thank you Sungha for doing a wonderful job!

This is one gifted kid. I started playing at his age but was never at his level. Watching him is pure rapture. I think some things cannot be truly explained or analysed, they can only be appreciated by awe. Like how a 12 year old can play a piece perfectly, after only 2-3 days of practice, when I’ve worked on it for months. Other than the practice time and the love of the instrument – there’s definitely an X – factor there. Kudos kid!

  15. Rurina says:

    He’s so awful.

he`s so awesome i like this boy
